Bamboo Blade Episode 2

The episode starts off with a younger, cuter, more loli Tamaki watching a TV show. It’s a lot like gundam-esque power rangers. But She is absolutely absorbed into it.

The episode then officially begins where we left off. Tamaki challenges Toyama and goes to get into some borrowed Kendo gear. The problem is that Tamaki is a little short and the hem of the trousers drag on the floor. This plays to her disadvantage later.

Her fight with Toyama begins. You know what made me smile? It wasn’t all speedlines. It only used speedlines when they made a hit. It was wonderful in-the-moment fighting! Loved it. Anyway, Tamaki is obviously winning even though Toyami is not following proper kendo procedure.

Near the end Tamaki uses a thrust which she had been forbidden to use on anyone that is not a mature man. Her thrust hits Toyama in the throat! As someone who has been leopard punched in the throat I can vouch for how much that would hurt! Hell, hit the right spot and that would kill anyone.

The battle is over. Tamaki even agrees to join the club to make sure Toyama never comes back. They are all friends at it’s just lovely. The next day at lunch the kendo club is sharing their food, but it turns out Tamaki only eats rice and dried plum. The rest of the club commences on feeding her. Her facial expression during that whole thing was rather comical.

Ishida-sensei challenges Tamaki at practice to test her skills. It turns out he is really out of form since she beat him easily. But everyone in the kendo club is training hard. At the end of the episode we learn Tamaki eats rice and dried plum at lunch everyday to honor her mother and father. Who, I would assume, are dead.

This is the anime that no one seems to be paying attention to. It saddens me because I like it so much, but it’s their loss. It’s not generic like Jyuushin Enbu and it’s not mecha like Gundam 00 and it’s well…It’s admittedly not AS funny as Minami-ke. But it’s pretty damn good!

  1. It’s hard not to fall in love with Tama-chan. She fights well, has a weird (yet noble) sense of justice and looks utterly adorable while being fed. Plus, she reminds me of Nagato.

Unless the producers screw something up down the line, I think we’re looking at a serious contender for Comedy of the Season.

  2. I’m glad Tama-chan wiped the floor with that guy!! He deserved it for picking on the first-years and cheating…bastard threw the sword at her!! >_<

@Diego: I’m reminded of Alice-chan from ARIA a lot more than Nagato. It’s maybe because it’s the same voice-actress and they act/talk exactly the same…just that Tama-chan doesn’t use ‘dekkai’!! Nagato is completely monotone…there’s no emotion, where Tama-chan uses that ‘dead-pan’ voice but still shows emotions.
